What is Capoeira?
Capoeira is a martial art that originated in Brazil. It originated as both a form of cultural expression and a way to disguise self-defense training.
Capoeira combines elements of combat, acrobatics, and game. Capoeira is practiced as a "jogo" (game) between two opponents, always accompanied by the music of the berimbau, the musical instrument of African origin that is one of the hallmarks of capoeira.
The practice of capoeira is particularly beneficial for kids, building character and confidence while developing a sense of identity as an individual and as part of a community. It teaches respect and exposes students to diversity and Brazilian culture.
